If You Give A Kate Some Milk

As I mentioned in the previous post, we've been "stuck" in the house all week. The girls and I haven't been anywhere since Sunday. That is a loooong time. I have to admit my attitude hasn't been that great. I feel like we have played with every toy, colored every page in the coloring books (seriously), watched every movie, read every book and played hopscotch til I never want to hop again:). Kate has been a trooper, me...not so much. I have mentioned that Kate loves the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" series. Well, yesterday while I was reading that book for the 15th time in 2 days (and I am not exaggerating) I realized Kate is that mouse. So I wrote a little tribute to her for our week stuck at home...if nothing else, it gave me a little laugh about our week.

If You Give a Kate Some Milk by Janet Hamilton

If you give a Kate some milk, she'll want to drink it from a purple cup. After drinking from the purple cup, it will remind her of the purple bowl and spoon. When she gets the purple bowl and spoon, she will want some oatmeal. When she is finished with the oatmeal, she will want a rag to clean up the mess. When the mess is clean you'll have to put the rag in the washer. She will want to go with you. On the way to the laundry room, she will see the stroller. She will want to push it around the house. She will push it down the hall and into the living room. Once in the living room, she will see the Old Maid cards. She will want to play. You will play Old Maid. Then she will remember the Elmo cards and want to play with those too. The Elmo cards will remind her of her Elmo ball. She will go get it and want to bounce it in the kitchen. The ball will bounce by the refrigerator. When she goes to get the ball, she will see the letters on the refrigerator. She will play with them and push the button. When she pushes the button, the ABC song will start playing. She will sing her ABC's. Singing the ABC's will remind her of the Elmo movie...the ABC one. She will want to watch it. When she watches the movie, Grover will jump up and down. Kate will want to jump too. And then she will run, and spin, and fall. Running and spinning and falling will make her hungry. She will want to eat lunch. When she sits at the table, she will see the coloring books and colors. She will want to color. Then she will ask you to draw a circle, and an elephant, and a sheep. Drawing the sheep will remind her of Mary's lamb. She will want you to sing Mary Had a Little Lamb. Singing will remind her of naptime. She will ask for paci and lambie and want to take a nap. After her nap, she will wake up thirsty. She will ask for the purple cup. And chances are, if she asks for the purple cup, she will want some milk to go with it.

The End.

  1. Janet, what a perfect description of a typical day in Kate's two year old life. You are a terrific mother - and writer. Thanks for blessing us with this. Love you all, JuJu and PaPaT
