Build A Bear

We took Kate to Build A Bear today. It was her first time. I took my camera BUT the memory card was in the computer. UGH!!! So there are no pictures of her 1st build a bear experience...but she was in! She picked out a bear, helped stuff it, put a heart in it...along with her 2 pacis, gave it a bath, got a bow, and made a birth certificate. She loved every bit.

Here is the birth certificate. She named it Bear...so creative!
Anyways, we have been talking about putting her pacis in the bear for about a week. At first, she did not like the idea, but on Thursday she said she was ready to put her paci (that she only has at naptime and bedtime) in the bear. So we told her we would go on Saturday. Well, she did GREAT...she put them in the bear, no hesitation, and watched the lady "sew" the bear up. When we got home she carried her bear around and talked about paci in the bear.

Checking out her new bear!

Then came test #1...naptime. When it was time to take a nap she said, "I need lambie. No paci...it is in the bear." Parker and I were pleasantly surprised. She went down for her nap with no problem...except she never fell asleep. For 2 hours she talked, sang, whined, and talked...but never slept.

Which set us up for test #2...bedtime. Now I know you can't believe it is possible but this sweet girl... had the meltdown of all meltdowns tonight. We were kind of expecting it since she took NO nap...and she did not let us down! She couldn't really put into words what was wrong...but we knew she was having paci withdrawals. I got in bed with her for a little bit and then Parker came in. After many tears and us asking what was wrong, she looked at Parker and said, "Can we take paci out of the bear for my next long nap?" Poor thing. Nothing breaks your heart like that...but this is long overdue! After much talking and explaining, she ended up going to bed much better than we expected. We're hoping the worst is over!

  1. Keep me posted on how paci withdrawls go. I'm already dreading it with Graham. Why oh why didn't I get rid of the thing when he was 4 months old and didn't know the difference????
